Common TMJ Symptoms

TMJ symptoms can be categorized as mildly painful to being extremely painful. There's a gray area here, since all individuals are not made equally, with some being able to tolerate more pain compared to others, and vice versa. Regardless of this, symptoms of TMJ should be taken with a seriousness befitting any life-threatening disease or condition, for if left untreated will severely threaten ones life and way of living.

Some of the more common TMJ symptoms are the presence of severe headaches or migraines, a lock jaw, ringing in the ears, dizziness or vertigo, sharp stabbing pain in the ears or jaws, problems with hearing, feelings of numbness in the arms or hands, swelling of the jaws, worn-down teeth, and popping or clicking sounds when the mouth is opened and closed.

Some other TMJ symptoms may appear whenever there is a trauma to a person's neck, face, head, and jaw area, from an accidental blow, or from being hit with great force by a hard object. If you happen to have such symptoms, seek prompt medical attention right away.
